A Regency mahogany and ebonised cabinet
A Regency mahogany and ebonised cabinet, early 19th century, in the manner of George Bullock, the shaped cornice flanked by acroteria with ebony inlaid decoration, above brass lattice work and fabric backed doors enclosing one shelf, over single drawer, the conforming lower section, enclosing one shelf and a bank of six drawers, raised on turned tapering legs, to brass caps and casters, 180cm high, 71cm wide, 39.5cm deep
Two bookcases by George Bullock illustrated in the 'Lowe Papers' on a sheet inscribed 'Breakfast Room for St Helena Nov. 1815, No 4' display similarities to the present lot. The pediments to these cabinets, to which the current lot is a variant, probably derive from Plate 14, No 3 of Thomas Hope's 'Household Furniture', 1807.
